What is a Hybrid System?
In short, it is the same platform used on our popular High Definition System with a setup that allows the control unit to remain at the house.  This gives you TV or Monitor viewing in addition to phones, tablets, and computers (our normal HD system).  If you are not concerned with TV viewing, check out our High Definition System as it is a  cheaper option with the same quality video. If you prefer looking at a big TV monitor at 2 AM, this system makes that possible.

About the Cameras
In our Hybrid System, Riverwind™ uses High Definition IP cameras from Eclipse and Alibi in or around your barn.  The image shown above was captured from video on our Hybrid System. The standard camera for this system is a fixed 2.8mm Starlight IR camera.  This lens gives a 103° field of view.  The Starlight IR provides an evenly lighted area, even in total darkness.  After years of refusing to sell Pan Tilt Zoom cameras because of the cost and reliability, we now offer a reliable 4X PTZ camera for those with setups like hoop buildings or large outdoor lots.  It took a lot of testing to convince us, but we're confident we can offer this camera with our proven advance replacement warranty policy.  If you are interested in incorporating a PTZ camera to your new or existing system, please view our PTZ camera page.

Installation
Installation is pretty simple with our straight forward instruction manual and readily available phone support.  This system does not include Ethernet cable.  You can easily buy that locally.  It is available in premade lengths at most hardware, electronic, and big box stores.  This allows you to tailor your cable lengths and provides for quick and easy replacement should a cable go bad.  Why wait 3 days for a $7 cable that you can buy just down the road?  We provide a wiring diagram that will allow you to easily plug in the distances you need.  Cables can also be made from bulk rolls for a fraction of the cost of premade for long runs inside the barn.  We recommend testing homemade cables and urge you to buy factory made cables when possible.

Cameras in secondary barns / locations
The beauty of IP cameras is that they can be placed in multiple locations and tied into the same system.  Each of these locations must have a network connection such as Wi-fi, one of our antennas, or an Ethernet cable to a network connection such as your router or a switch.  We'll look at your setup via an aerial map and give you a no hassle estimate.  Multiple locations can be done all at once or in stages at no additional cost.  When adding cameras, you pay only as much as you would have if you ordered them initially.  Multi-camera discounts are applied no matter when you purchase.

Remote In Setup
Preprogramming and our remote in tech support is what makes our system simple to use.  We send this to you ready to install and operate.  Most need no assistance but if you do, we will remote in to your computer and set the system up on your network, all while you watch from home.  If your Internet dictates, we'll set up a local address for high speed viewing even when the Internet is bad or out of service.  We preprogrammed an Internet address for viewing so it's operating right out of the box.   If needed, we'll help you install and program the app on your mobile phone and walk you through the settings.  When we hang up, you will be watching your barn cameras  on phones, tablets, computers, and your home TV.  Riverwind tech support is provided in-house, all from the USA.  If you're technical, complete instructions and videos will help you set up and troubleshoot the system on your own if you wish.

As mentioned above, a local connection will not use any Internet bandwidth if you're on a limited data plan. This means that when watching your cameras from home, they will always work at high speed and full resolution no matter how slow your Internet is (or when it is down).  When you are away from home, the system uses your home's upload connection to broadcast to your phone, tablet, or computer.  If you are concerned your internet connection may not handle it (while away), go to google.com and search for "google speed test".  Run the test button and note your upload speed.  For optimal viewing, you need an upload speed of .6MB or higher- preferably 1MB or above for live viewing.  At slower speeds, the connection will function, but it may show full image slow motion video while it is buffering. The phone/computer feeds have both high and lower quality streams for ease of use and help to provide live action video when using poor Internet connections.

Special Setups
Many times your barn camera setup does not fall into any one prefab setup.  If you have special circumstances (such as remote building with no line of sight or it's miles and miles away), give us a call.  We'll see if what you have is workable or possible with today's technology.

Adding free Wi-Fi tothe barn
You can easily add Internet at the barn with this system.  Simply plug a router into the equipment and your barn has Wi-Fi complements of the house.
Wiring Diagram
Barn cameras are more than just convenient.  When saving one animal more than or almost covers the cost of the system, think of the savings a barn camera will offer over years of use.  Check from bed, work, or enlist the help of others who can now check while you get some rest.  Riverwind has been in the barn camera business for 24 years.  We've lasted so long for a reason.  We will provide you the best customer service in the industry and equipment that will outlast all others.
